Access Statement For Castle Cottage, Pickering

Introduction

Castle Cottage is a grade 2 listed mid terrace stone cottage. Built in approximately 1850. It has access from the front and rear.

We have tried to provide as much information as possible in this statement, if you have any queries please do call.

Pre-Arrival

• We have an extensive website, with details of facilities available and pictures of all the rooms. 
• Bookings / enquiries can be made directly from the website via email, or via telephone or by letter.  
• All guests are provided with written directions to the cottage (available in different font size and dyslexia friendly font if required).
• The nearest bus stop is in Eastgate – 600m away.
• The nearest train station (Malton) is 8 Miles away;  taxis are available from the station or there is a bus service to Pickering from the from the bus station opposite.
• The nearest RADAR toilet is in The Ropery car park - 300m away.
• A travel cot and high chair are available, please ask when booking. Other baby equipment is available for hire from a local company, please ask for contact details.
• This access statement is available on our website and in the 'Welcome File' in the cottage.  

 Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
 
• There is on street parking at the front (no dropped kerb)
• The pavement is level to the front door.
• Access to the cottage is also available from the rear. For guests arriving this way full directions will be provided.

Main Entrance & Reception

• The main entrance is the front door from Castlegate. The key for this door is issued to our guests on arrival.
• The front door is 72 cm x 180 cm, with the hinge on the left. The keyhole is 76 cm high.
• There is a small stone step 2 cm high with a weather board of 2.5 cm high across the length of the threshold.
• The front door opens into a small lobby area (90cm x100cm). There is a mat on the floor inside the front door. The quarry tiles are of contrasting colour.
• The lobby area opens into the living room. The light switch for the living room is on the right hand side of the door leading to the dining room.  

Public Areas - General (Internal)
 
• There is fitted carpet throughout the cottage it is light brown in colour & is short pile.
• Smoke alarms are fitted in the dining room and on the landing outside the bedroom doors.
• Keys to the back door, boiler shed & storage/bicycle shed are kept in the wall cupboard in the kitchen.

Dining Room & Lounge

Lounge

• Door from the lobby to the lounge is 79 cm wide and 198 cm high, it is hinged on the left and opens into the lounge.
• There is a large rug on the floor.
• There is a two seater settee and 2 separate tub armchairs. There is also a floor standing reading lamp and two small coffee tables. The chairs, settee and tables are movable.  There are a number of non-feather cushions available.
• There is a TV, DVD player and freeview box with remote controls.

Dining Room

• Door from lounge is 78cm wide and 175cm high, it is hinged on the left and opens into the dining room.
• There is a round table (106cm wide & 73cm high – clearance under the table is 64cm). There are 4 dining chairs.
• The staircase leads off the dining room. The first 3 steps are on a curve, with the narrowest point on the left & widest point (43cm) on the right.
• There are then 7 step up to the first floor landing 22cm deep, 24cm high & 66cm wide.
• There is a handrail on the left approx 80cm above the treads. 
• There are light switch on the left hand side at the bottom & top of the stairs.
• The top landing (upstairs) is 60cm x  80cm.

Laundry
 
• There is a front loading washing machine available in the boiler shed in the yard of the Beacon Cottage. Access to this is shared by both cottages.  There is a drying rack is in the cupboard under the stairs.

Outdoor Facilities
 
• Exiting through the back door, from the kitchen, there is a yard and small garden area. 
• This door is 75cm wide x 198cm high. There is a stone step 5cm high with a weather sill 2cm high.
• The yard is laid in concrete leading into a small lawned garden area.  • Patio furniture and BBQ are available for guests to use.
• The refuse bin & recycling bin are on the right outside the back door.
• A storage/bicycle shed is available for use, it is the second shed on the right next to the gate at the end of the garden path.

Upstairs Bedrooms
 
Bedroom 1
• There is a step up into the bedroom 21cm high. The door is 74cm wide x 182 cm high, hinged on the right, opening into room.
• There is a metal double bed 4' 6" wide. The bed is 55cm from floor to top of mattress.
• All bedding is cotton or percale with non feather pillows and quilt. 
• The space to the left of the bed is 75cm wide. 
• The space to the right of the bed is 140cm. 
• The light switch is to the left of the door. There are two separate reading lamps available by each side of the bed.

Bedroom 2 
• There is a step up into the bedroom 21cm high. The door is 66cm wide x 177 cm high, hinged on the right, opening into room.
• There is a single divan bed against the right wall (bed height 66 cm from floor) & a pull out bed (bed height 66cm from floor) which goes against the left hand wall. The pull out bed is stored under the divan bed if not required.
• If the second bed is not required the distance between the bed & the left hand wall is 118cm. If the second bed is in use the distance between the beds is 40cm.
• All bedding is cotton or percale with non feather pillows and quilt.
• The light switch is on the left inside the door. There is a lamp available between the beds.
• In both bedrooms additional blankets are available.

Bathroom

• This is accessed from the kitchen. The pull cord light switch is on the left inside the door.
• Door 65cm wide by 192cm high. It is hinged on the right & opens into the room. The lock is a bolt style lock & is 164cm from floor.
• The toilet seat is 42cm high - the space to the right is 31cm and to the front 54cm.
• The sink is 80cm high.  The bath is 56cm high, 130cm long and  54cm wide. 
• There is an adjustable shower available over bath. Maximum height 190cm, minimum height 150, it can also be hand held.
• The room has a wall mounted heated towel rail & an extractor fan which activates when the light is switched on.
• The floor surface is Lino.

Self-Catering Kitchen
• There are two concrete steps down into the kitchen; step 1 is 12cm deep by 18cm high & step 2 is 30cm deep by 17cm high. They are painted a contrasting colour.
• Door 77cm wide by 182cm high, hinged on the right, opening into the dining room.
• The worktop height is 90cm.
• There is breakfast bar 90cm high with two stools 63cm high.
• The sink is 90cm high with cupboards underneath.
• The gas oven is 90cm high. The grill/top oven is 61cm high, the door opens down. The main oven door is hinged on the left, top shelf is 32cm high.
• The fridge is under the work surface with the small ice box at 70cm and the highest shelf is 52cm.
• The dishwasher is under the work surface, the door opens down. The top shelf is 60cm high & the lower shelf is 30cm. It can be accessed from the right hand side.
• There is a microwave & a CD/Radio player.
• Crockery and pans etc are in the cupboards beneath the work surfaces. Glasses and cups etc are in the wall cupboards. 
• The light switch is on the right hand wall by the dining room door.
• There is an extractor fan to the right of the window, operated by a pull cord.
• A fire blanket is hung on the end of the right hand wall cupboard. A fire extinguisher is also available.
• The flooring is lino.
